The Gold designation showed that the management had “connected
the dots” between support and policy (and practice) change.
Eleven employers received WorkWell Healthy Workplace designations in 2007 for their 2006 efforts. Here is a list of the designees, along with some of the activities they accomplished to earn designation.
City of Olympia - 578 employees
This local government employer made several changes that support the health of their workforce. First, a unique employee benefit was initiated - one paid half day - which provided staff with the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities. Second, purchasing healthy foods for meetings was encouraged by eliminating reimbursement for junk food.

Lucky Eagle Casino - 575 employees
This large employer provided low-cost or no cost healthy meals to employees from their on-site kitchen. They also created a track around the perimeter of their property with every ¼ mile marked off to support employees taking walks during work hours.

Olympia Physical Therapy and Industrial Rehabilitation - 9 employees
This employer paid for health club memberships not only for their employees, but for employees’ family members as well. In addition, they provided
employee benefits aimed at living a healthier lifestyle.
ProActive Sports Med, 14 employees
This local employer negotiated a small business membership to a nearby gym, which 75% of their employees took advantage of. They also made sure that healthy snacks, not just junk food, were available at the workplace.

Providence St. Peter Hospital - 2,250 employees
This major employer supported the health of their workforce in many ways, ranging from providing a
cycling club, bike lockers, and showers for staff - to labeling healthy meals in the hospital’s cafeteria so that consumers and staff could quickly and easily identify the healthier choice.

RSM McGladrey - 28 employees
This accounting, tax and business consulting firm provided healthier food options and does not order desserts for staff gatherings. They have flexible work schedules for employees, which has allowed more opportunities to engage in physical activity - before, after and during work hours.
TAGS/The Williams Group - 14 employees
This awards and marketing employer provided healthy food options at staff meetings and created a wellness committee. They also purchased exercise equipment and placed it on-site for employees to use during lunch hours and breaks.
The Creative Office - 18 employees
This local office products store provided a flexible lunch hour to encourage employees to exercise at a nearby gym and now caters meetings with healthy food.

The Thurston County Chamber - 10 employees
This employer was recognized for providing their staff with an on-site refrigerator and microwave to allow food brought from home to be easily stored and prepared at no cost. The Chamber’s leadership makes the WorkWell designation partnership possible.
TOGETHER! - 21 employees
This non-profit employer allowed flexible work schedules to provide staff with more opportunities to work out and took steps to make sure that foods served at meetings and events they host include healthy options.
TwinStar Credit Union - 176 employees
This local financial institution provided healthier food for work meetings and brought in a nutritionist to teach a basic nutrition class as part of annual well-being opportunities for employees.
